Full Hemp Elixer

Here at Dogtraining101 we believe in the holistic approach to our dogs.  Sometimes in our pets it can be challenging to achieve the results we are after.  That’s why we are now stocking this product to be able to be used in conjunction with training rather than heavy human medication.  We always recommend veterinary guidance as indicated on the bottles.

Below is a document outlining all you need to know.

Full Spectrum Hemp Oil and your Pets

Our product is sourced from Nimbin from a family operation.

What “full-spectrum” means on a hemp or CBD label.

Full-spectrum hemp oil (not to be confused with hemp seed oil) is an extract only derived from hemp. Hemp is the term for a cannabis plant with 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or less—not enough for mind-altering effects. In contrast, a CBD oil can be extracted from either hemp or marijuana. Marijuana is the term for cannabis plants with higher levels of THC.

Full-spectrum hemp oil contains all of the naturally available compounds the hemp plant has to offer, including CBD and more than 100 cannabinoids and a host of terpenes and flavonoids to boot. This is different from a CBD isolate product that will only contain a single cannabinoid: CBD.

The benefits of full-spectrum oils.

When you take a full-spectrum supplement rather than a CBD isolate product, the hemp plant’s hundreds of compounds have a way of working together to boost the product’s overall benefits. Researchers call this synergy the entourage effect: when cannabis compounds work together, they’re more powerful than any one cannabinoid on its own. “I think about it in a sports metaphor, where you’ve got one star player, but you need the team,” explains renowned integrative physician Robert Rountree, M.D. “It’s the mix that’s important.”

So what are all those compounds, and what do they do? First, cannabinoids affect the body’s endocannabinoid system, the body’s “master regulatory system,” which plays a role in maintaining the immune, digestive, and central nervous systems.

Our bodies actually make their own endocannabinoids to help keep us in balance or homeostasis. But researchers theorize that sometimes we become deficient in endocannabinoids, which can lead to chronic conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome or migraines. When taken as a supplement, phytocannabinoids, which come from plants, may be able to help ease some of the symptoms by helping our endocannabinoid system perform its delicate balancing act.*

One of the most talked-about and researched phytocannabinoids in hemp oil and CBD oil is, of course, CBD. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg: Scientists are still studying just how many cannabinoids can be derived from hemp and what their capabilities are individually, collectively, and in various combinations.

What’s more, cannabinoids are just some of the beneficial compounds present in cannabis that end up in a full-spectrum product. “We know that phytocannabinoids are more effective and better tolerated when taken together and in concert with their co-occurring terpenes, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals than when they are taken in isolation,” explains Jessica Knox, M.D., MPH, co-founder of the American Cannabinoid Clinics and a preventive medicine physician.

Terpenes, responsible for the aroma of cannabis, enhance how we process the plant’s many cannabinoids. And flavonoids—also abundant in tea, fruits, veggies, and more—are phytonutrients known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects.

“When you mix all those phytocannabinoids together and not just the phytocannabinoids—but their supportive compounds and antioxidants that are in the [hemp plant] stalk—it’s a whole mix,” Rountree explains. “There’s this whole system at work.”

The bottom line.

With full-spectrum hemp oil, the compounds derived from cannabis—including all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids—team up to benefit your body and help keep you in harmony. In short, full-spectrum presents a whole orchestra rather than just one cannabinoid’s solo performance.

What Is The Entourage Effect?

The entourage effect refers to how various cannabinoids and other natural constituents work together synergistically to magnify their potential therapeutic properties. Introduced in 1998, a study by Israeli researchers Shimon Ben-Shabat and Raphael Mechoulam, the entourage effect theory maintains that isolated or synthetic cannabinoids aren’t as effective at eliciting curative effects as when all of the natural constituents work together harmoniously. While it’s the two major cannabinoids — cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – that garner most of the attention for their ability to provide therapeutic relief, in reality, these cannabinoids work in conjunction with over 400 additional compounds to treat a multitude of medical ailments. When cannabinoid oil is derived from the plant’s stalk and seeds, the extraction process draws out all of the plant’s terpenes, essential fatty acids, waxes, carbohydrates, fibre, protein, magnesium, iron, calcium, chlorophyll, flavonoids, and vitamins A, B, C, and E, and beta-Carotene, as well as other various cannabinoids. This “full-spectrum” oil allows you to take advantage of the whole plant and it’s natural healing properties.

Benefits of the Entourage Effect By working together synergistically, the whole plant extract of cannabinoids and other natural constituents are able to affect multiple targets throughout the body. One recent study investigating cannabinoids’ potential therapeutic effect on muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis found whole plant extract to be more effective than administering THC alone. The entourage effect also improves the absorption of active ingredients. Because cannabinoids are chemically polar compounds, sometimes it can be difficult for them to be absorbed. The other natural constituents may help improve their absorbability and viability. Cannabinoids and natural constituents that work together also are able to better overcome bacterial defence mechanisms. While cannabinoids have shown to be potentially effective for treating bacterial infections, bacteria develop defence mechanisms over time. The other non-cannabinoid constituents found in cannabis also have antibacterial properties, utilizing other pathways to combat the bacteria.

While working together, cannabinoids and other natural constituents also minimize unwanted side effects. While THC alone can cause a euphoric response, and at times elicit anxiety and paranoia, CBD has shown it can modulate those unwanted effects. When a complex mix of cannabinoids works in tandem with the essential nutrients and other natural components, they’re better able to provide their therapeutic and healing effects.

How Do You Make Full Spectrum Oil?

To create a full-spectrum oil, CBD is not extracted from the cannabis/hemp plants, in fact nothing is extracted. Instead the plant undergoes an infusion process to allow the natural transfer of all the active botanical goodness from the plant into the oil.

What About Getting High

Whilst Infusion doesn’t remove any THC present, the natural levels are of THC are legal and don’t cause a ‘high’ (less than 0.2-0.3%).

What is Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil and Why is it Important?

Full-spectrum hemp oil refers to when the entire hemp plant and all it contains, the cannabinoids and compounds found in the original hemp plant are used to make the oil you buy. Unlike isolated or synthetic cannabinoids, full-spectrum hemp oil also contains an array of essential vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, fibre, flavonoids, and terpenes, not just a single extracted cannabinoid such as CBD (often in doses far higher than the can be used, just for marketing purposes).

Why is Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil Important? The value of full-spectrum hemp goes beyond it being a source of just CBD. The array of cannabinoids and other natural constituents found in full-spectrum hemp oil work have been shown in studies to work together in what’s referred to as the “entourage effect.” Together, these compounds work harmoniously to magnify their therapeutic properties. The complex mix of cannabinoids, essential nutrients, protein, and healthy fats work synergistically to encourage homeostasis and balance in our health.

Cannabinoids Full-spectrum hemp oil contains dozens of cannabinoids. One of the most abundant cannabinoids found in hemp oil is cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound shown to have many benefits in studies.

Hemp oil also contains the cannabinoid ‘Cannabidiolic Acid’ (CBDa). In live hemp, CBDa is more abundant than CBD. Often times hemp oil will undergo a heating process called decarboxylation, which changes CBDa into CBD and offers those seeking the highest levels of CBD a more ideal product.

A combination of CBD and CBDa should make up over 90% of the cannabinoid content in good full-spectrum hemp oils.

Other more major cannabinoids found in full-spectrum could include cannabigerol (CBG), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabinol (CBN). You can learn more about these cannabinoids and what studies have so far discovered about their potential therapeutic benefits here.

You can learn about the entourage effect, whereby a combination of the compounds in hemp has a far greater effect than any single element on its own.

Vitamins and Minerals Full-spectrum hemp oil also contains a wide list of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. Present are vitamins A, C, and E., and well as B complex vitamins like riboflavin, thiamine, and niacin. Hemp oil is also a source of vitamins that are commonly not sufficiently present in many diets, including beta-carotene. Minerals are essential for a variety of bodily functions, nerve function and metabolic processes. They’re also important for building strong bones and the health of our blood, skin, and hair. Full-spectrum hemp oil contains minerals like magnesium, zinc, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, and iron.

Essential Fats and Protein Full-spectrum hemp oil is a healthy source of protein, which is instrumental in building and repairing tissues. Health officials recommend refraining from regularly eating red meat because it’s higher in saturated fat, but hemp oil is a heart-healthy source of all 20 amino acids, including the nine essential amino acids that must be provided through the diet. Essential fatty acids are necessary for maintaining heart and cardiovascular health. The two primary essential fatty acids — Omega 3 and Omega 6 — are ideally consumed at a ratio of around 3:1. Unfortunately, in the typical western diet, that ratio is close to 25:1. Full-spectrum hemp oil offers the two essential fatty acids in the optimal 3:1 ratio.
